NATIONAL BUILDING CODE OF CANADA, 2020
In 2018, the NRC declared it was a ‘high priority’ to update the National Building Code (NBC) of Canada to reflect the new safety glass standard which does not permit wired glass in human traffic locations. The new 2020 edition of the NBC has changes with regards to Safety Glazing:

(3.3.2.17 excerpt) Safety Glazing in Locations of Human Impact: Glazing in all fixed and operable door panels, and all fixed and operable windows, shall conform to Class A of CAN/CGSB 12.1-2017 “Safety Glazing” except when outside range of human impact (bottom edge of glazing is higher than 1525mm (5’) above the floor or 915mm (3’) horizontally away from the walking surface).
Note: wired glass does not pass this test and is therefore not permitted.
